⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Loved it! A must-own book.

If you are looking for a dystopian fantasy romance with a lethal heroine, forbidden love, and high-stakes tension, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi just might be for you. There’s one caveat though. Read on to find out what might turn readers off of this series.

Summary:

One touch is all it takes. One touch, and Juliette Ferrars can leave a fully grown man gasping for air. One touch, and she can kill.

No one knows why Juliette has such incredible power. It feels like a curse, a burden that one person alone could never bear. But The Reestablishment sees it as a gift, sees her as an opportunity. An opportunity for a deadly weapon.

Juliette has never fought for herself before. But when she’s reunited with the one person who ever cared about her, she finds a strength she never knew she had.

📖 What’s Inside:

  • 🏢 Dystopian government control
  • Single POV
  • Forbidden Love🫶
  • Experimentation
  • ☠️ Deadly Touch
  • Hidden agendas and dangerous secrets
  • Rebellion Rising⚡
  • On-page intimacy 🟢

✨ Vibes:

Think Throne of Glass meets X-Men.

💭 My Thoughts:

So, this one surprised me in the best way. I went in not knowing what to expect and ended up giving it five stars. The story was gripping enough that I kept turning the pages late into the night. Therefore, I found myself invested in Juliette’s journey right from the start.

That said, the writing style is definitely unique. Because it’s full of run-on sentences, repetition repetition repetition, and a very stream-of-consciousness narrative, it might not appeal to many readers. Personally, I thought it added to the intensity of Juliette’s voice, but I can see how it won’t work for everyone and may invite a lot of skimming. There are also interesting metaphors that may not hit right with everyone. The flowery language brings it’s own unique flair, but again, I don’t think it will be for everyone.

Personally, the writing style pulled me deeper into the character’s head and made the tension feel that much sharper. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and am excited to continue the series.

Should you add Shatter Me to your TBR?

Yes…if you’re open to an unusual writing style and love stories with tension, danger, and emotional stakes, it might be worth adding to your TBR. Unique writing style alert = may not be for everyone.
