Whether you’re here for obsessive Draco, enemies-to-lovers tension, or the kind of slow burn that emotionally ruins you, I’ve rounded up the best Dramione fanfiction you need on your radar—updated for 2026 with even more must-read fics.

From iconic staples to under-the-radar gems, these are the stories that will have you saying “just one more chapter” at 2am.

A Quick Note About AO3

All of these fics are hosted on Archive of Our Own (AO3) — the internet’s biggest fanfiction library and a total treasure trove for readers who love exploring new takes on their favorite characters. It’s completely free to use, but you’ll likely need an AO3 account to access some of the works listed below (especially the spicy or mature-rated ones). Creating one only takes a minute, and it’s worth it. AO3 is where the best Dramione magic happens.

Top 25 Dramione Fanfics to Read TODAY

Below are twenty-five Dramione fics that have completely ruined my ability to read anything else for at least three business days after finishing. Some are legendary, some underrated, all unforgettable. Bookmark this post, because you’re going to need a recovery period.

And be sure to check out my Dramione vibes tag. From fanfic lists to original fantasy romance stories with the same vibes, this tag sums it all up in one place for easy access.

1. The Disappearances of Draco Malfoy by speechwriter

Summary:
The night on the Astronomy Tower goes differently—and that one choice changes everything.

Instead of following through, Draco lowers his wand and disappears into the protection of the Order. What follows is a Deathly Hallows rewrite that feels so seamless it might just replace canon in your head.

If you’re new to Dramione, start here. Seriously.

2. Remain Nameless by HeyJude19

Summary:
Draco is barely holding it together—and Hermione knows it.

Post-war life has left them both fractured in different ways, but something as simple as grabbing coffee together starts to shift everything. What begins as routine quickly turns into something neither of them can ignore.

Quiet, emotional, and deeply human—this one lingers.

3. Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love by isthisselfcare

Summary:
Draco Malfoy is an Auror. Hermione Granger is brilliant, untouchable, and entirely unimpressed by him.

Assigned to protect her, Draco finds himself in the worst possible situation: forced proximity, undeniable chemistry, and feelings he absolutely does not want to examine.

Expect slow burn, elite banter, and Draco spiraling in the most entertaining way.

👉 Heads up: this fic was adapted into an original fantasy romance novel. Read my review of The Irresistible Urge to Fall for Your Enemy by Brigitte Knightley

4. Teach Me How to Forget by scullymurphy

Summary:
Hermione’s life is falling apart—and she’s done pretending otherwise.

A fresh start leads her straight into the path of someone she never expected to see again… now in a position of authority over her. Awkward doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Messy, sharp, and full of tension, this one leans into second chances the hard way.

5. The Portrait of Draco Malfoy by silverdragongemini

Summary:
Some portraits capture faces. This one captures everything underneath.

When Hermione begins restoring a magical portrait of Draco Malfoy, she doesn’t expect it to feel like talking to a real person—or for it to start changing her life in return.

Quiet, atmospheric, and deeply emotional, this one builds slowly and lingers long after.

6. Wait and Hope by mightbewriting

Summary:
Hermione wakes up with no memory of the last six years… including her marriage to Draco Malfoy.

While she struggles to piece together a life she doesn’t remember choosing, Draco is left holding onto a love she doesn’t even know exists.

Soft, painful, and emotionally devastating in the quietest way. While Wait and Hope is now no longer available to read as a fan fic, you can still get the story through audiobook format.

👉 Heads up: this fic was adapted into an original contemporary romance novel. Read my review of Once, Again, Always by Amanda Gayle

7. Beginning and End by mightbewriting

Summary:
Before Wait and Hope broke your heart, this is how it all began.

Told from Draco’s POV, this prequel follows his journey from reluctant ally to something much more—and all the mistakes, regrets, and moments that shaped him along the way.

If you want the full emotional damage, you need both. This fic is also only available in audiobook format now.

8. Green Light by serenemusafir

Summary:
This isn’t a love story that happens quickly—it’s one that builds in the spaces between everything else.

Draco and Hermione orbit each other through years of choices, distance, and timing that never quite aligns. What emerges is something soft, aching, and deeply human.

Beautifully written and emotionally heavy in the best way.

9. Measure of a Man by inadaze22

Summary:
Who Draco was. Who he is. Who he could become.

Hermione finds herself slowly unraveling the layers of a man she thought she understood—and realizing there’s far more beneath the surface.

A slow, character-driven burn that’s all about growth, healing, and earned connection.

10. More Than One Way to Win by scullymurphy

Summary:
Winning was never supposed to feel like this.

Draco and Hermione find themselves on opposing sides of strategy, ambition, and control—but neither is willing to back down. What starts as competition slowly turns into something far more complicated.

Sharp, clever, and full of tension that builds with every interaction.

11. Forget Me Yesterday, Remember Me Tomorrow by Simply_Lovely_Reader

Summary:
Engaged. In love. Happy.

Until Draco wakes up with no memory of any of it.

Now Hermione is forced to navigate a relationship that only one of them remembers—and decide if they can find their way back to each other again.

12. Love and Other Historical Accidents by pacificrimbaud

Summary:
They broke time. Literally.

Now Hermione and Draco are stuck 200 years in the past with no easy way home—and far too much time to argue.

Sharp, chaotic, and wildly entertaining, this one blends romance, history, and banter perfectly. *Link is to the podfic. It appears this fic is no longer available to read on AO3 🙁

13. The Gloriana Set by thebemoon

Summary:
Hogwarts is full of secrets—and Draco Malfoy just became one of them.

Set during their school years, this fic blends mystery, slow-burn tension, and carefully layered relationships that shift over time. Nothing here is simple, and that’s exactly what makes it work.

A clever, atmospheric take on their early dynamic.

14. The Fixer Upper Club by charlipetidei

Summary:
Hogwarts is broken. So are they.

Returning for eighth year, Hermione sets out to rebuild the castle—but ends up rebuilding far more than that alongside Draco.

Soft, healing, and full of quiet character moments that hit harder than you expect.

15. Cruel and Beautiful World by lenaphoria

Summary:
The world is not kind—but neither are they.

In a story where survival comes before everything else, Draco and Hermione are forced into proximity that neither of them wants… and both of them understand too well.

Dark, emotionally intense, and full of sharp edges.

16. These Selfish Vows by heavenlydew

Summary:
The war never ended—and Hermione lost.

Imprisoned in Azkaban, she makes a dangerous bargain with the man in the next cell. But even after escape, the consequences of that choice follow her straight back into the war.

Dark, intense, and layered with tension—especially when the man she’s hunting is the one she can’t let go of.

👉 If you love this darker, morally gray dynamic in Dramione, you’ll probably devour my list of fantasy romance books with morally grey men or my list of books where the villain gets the girl.

17. A Game of High Stakes by In_Dreams

Summary:
Everything is a game—until it stops feeling like one.

Draco and Hermione are pulled into a world of strategy, manipulation, and dangerous trust. Every move matters, and every choice has consequences they can’t fully control.

Intelligent, tense, and impossible to put down.

18. An Ever Fixed Mark by ninepiecesofcrait

Summary:
A cursed heirloom. A broken spell. An accidental engagement.

Hermione definitely didn’t mean to bind herself to Draco Malfoy—but now that she has, things spiral fast.

Chaotic, clever, and packed with tension, this one is as fun as it is addictive.

19. Between Certifiable and Bliss by heyjude19

Summary:
There’s a thin line between holding it together and falling apart.

This story lives in that space—where Draco and Hermione try to navigate something fragile, complicated, and constantly shifting. Nothing is simple, and neither are they.

Quietly devastating in the most understated way.

20. The Trials and Tribulations of Draco Malfoy’s Employment by ladyursa

Summary:
Draco Malfoy got a job. Unfortunately, it comes with Hermione Granger.

Now he’s stuck working alongside someone who is brilliant, infuriating, and entirely unimpressed with him—while being sent on increasingly dangerous missions.

Smart, funny, and full of sharp dialogue (and even sharper chemistry).

21. Lovefool by willowingscribe

Summary:
Feelings were never supposed to get this messy.

What starts as attraction turns into something far more complicated—something neither Draco nor Hermione knows how to name or handle.

Chaotic, emotional, and full of romantic misfires.

22. A Hard Row to Hoe by blessdtoaster

Summary:
Nothing about this is easy—not redemption, not love, not change.

Draco and Hermione are forced into a situation where every step forward comes with consequences, and every choice feels heavier than the last.

Emotional, layered, and grounded in hard-earned growth with witty and humorous narration.

23. The Auction by lovesbitca8

This fic was recently adapted into its own story (published July 2025), and let me tell you, it is INCREDIBLE! Rose in Chains is a solid five star read, and is the gold standard of fanfic adaptations. While The Auction is now no longer available to read as a fan fic, you can still get the story through audiobook format.

24. Manacled by Senlinyu

Unfortunately for Dramione fans, this fic has been removed from AO3 since its adaptation into Alchemised. However, this wouln’t be a true list of the best dramione fanfiction if I didn’t include this masterpiece. It’s brutal, brilliant, and beautifully written. So while it’s not available on AO3, Alchemised is basically the same story, just set in a different world. If you want, you can still experience the emotional devastation that made this fic a masterpiece and read the adapted story.

25. Bridging the Gap by aficfortheendoftheworld

If you’ve made it this far down the list, you’re clearly one of us — a true Dramione die-hard. Which means you need to know about my fanfic, Bridging the Gap, now live (and complete!) on AO3.

Summary:
Eight years gone. A husband she doesn’t remember. A life she doesn’t recognize.

When Hermione wakes to find she’s Mrs. Draco Malfoy, she must rediscover who she was — and decide if she still wants to be her.

👉 Start reading Bridging the Gap free on AO3.

Whether you’re deep in your Dramione era or just testing the waters, these fics are the crème de la crème. They’ll make you laugh, cry, and maybe question your loyalty to canon (don’t worry, we all did).
