Book Boyfriend Meter: 🧡

Would consider. Would absolutely regret something.

👉 If morally grey book boyfriends are your weakness… this free starter pack was made for you.

✨ Vibes:

Cinderella — evil step-mother vibes

The Book of Azrael — angels, demons, and high-stakes fantasy

One Dark Window — if the Nightmare got his own demon fantasy.

Basically: One Dark Window meets demon possession… with a murder mystery thrown in for good measure.

💭 My Thoughts:

I have one of my favorite indie authors, Vasilisa Drake, to thank for this recommendation.

The moment she compared it to One Dark Window and mentioned Nightmare vibes…

I was sold. And honestly?

It delivered exactly what I wanted.

From the very first chapter, I was hooked.

It’s been way too long since I picked up a good angels-versus-demons fantasy, and this one scratched that itch perfectly. The pacing is fast. The chapters fly by. And before I knew it, I’d binged half the book.

THE WORLD:

One thing I really appreciated was that the worldbuilding never tried to be overly complicated.

It gives you exactly what you need without drowning you in lore. It was a little info-dumpy at the start, but it wasn’t too much for me.

The possession element was especially fun. You can definitely see the inspiration behind it, but it never felt like a copy. Instead, it takes familiar ideas and spins them into something that feels fresh.

I also loved the explanation for how demons are created. It reminded me a little of the Cauldron from A Court of Wings and Ruin…

Just on a much larger, eerier scale.

CRITICISMS:

Was it predictable?

A little.

There were a few twists I saw coming. But honestly? I didn’t really care.

This isn’t the kind of fantasy that demands deep analysis. It’s the kind you pick up on a weekend, binge in two days, and have an absolute blast reading.

And that’s exactly what I was in the mood for.

This book knows exactly what it wants to be. It’s fast. Fun. Spicy. Addictive.

And never takes itself too seriously.

Am I desperately counting down the days until book two? Not really. Will I absolutely pick it up eventually?

Without question.

Because this was just a genuinely entertaining time.
