💭 My Thoughts:
First things first — huge thanks to the author and The Nerd Fam for the eARC! I received this book for free in exchange for my honest opinion… and you already know I keep it real around here.
Now let’s talk about the reading experience.
This book is fast.
Between the short chapters and constant action, it’s one of those reads where you say “just one more chapter” and suddenly you’re 100 pages deeper.
And the POV structure?
When I say multi-POV, I mean multi-POV.
We’re not talking a couple of perspectives — we’re jumping around a lot. But instead of each character having their own separate storyline, it feels more like you’re watching the same action unfold from different angles.
Honestly? It reminded me of those video games where you switch characters mid-battle to use different abilities.
That said, this is still very much the FMC’s story — we’re just getting extra layers of insight as she moves through it. I expect the other storylines to go deeper as the story progresses, but for now, the focus is singular.
Now let’s talk romance.
The MMC? Total Finnick Odair energy (yes, that Finnick).
Hot. Charming. A little too smooth. But at this point in the story?
Not for me.
And honestly, I think part of that is because the FMC isn’t impressed either — so naturally, I’m not swooning yet.
What didn’t fully work for me was how their relationship gets pushed together. There’s a bit of a forced romantic setup that felt… unnecessary.
I love fake dating. I do.
But here? It felt more like a plot device to create tension rather than something the story actually needed — and that took me out of it a little.
That said…
This is a slow burn.
And I mean slow slow.
Like… we are still in the “is this even a spark?” phase.
But because the book is so action-packed, you honestly don’t feel like you’re missing anything.
And the ending???
RUDE.
You’re literally dropped into the start of another trial and then… it’s over. Cliffhanger. Immediate emotional damage.
This series is clearly meant to be binged — which is unfortunate because Book 2 is not out yet.
(And considering this is an eARC… this one isn’t even out yet either. The audacity. 😂) Which, by the way, this book releases 4.3.2026
