Would consider. Would absolutely regret something.
💭 My Thoughts:
It was honestly refreshing to read a soft FMC.
I love a badass, stab-first-ask-later heroine as much as the next fantasy reader—but Silla is different. Her strength is quiet. Internal. Less about physical dominance and more about endurance, resilience, and heart. And it works because of the story this book is telling.
This is a slow build, but not in a bad way. It doesn’t drag—it lingers. The Road of Bones reads like a true quest fantasy: a dangerous traveling journey where not every chapter is life-or-death, but every moment adds weight. You spend real time with the characters. You get to know them in low-stakes spaces, which makes the high-stakes moments hit harder when they come.
If you’re someone who needs nonstop action, this might test your patience. But I was surprised by how compelling it remained despite the slower pace. I never felt bored. Not once. And that says a lot.
Yes, there are fight scenes and there is death. Yes, the blood and gore are very graphic. But it’s not wall-to-wall chaos. This is a character-driven story first.
Here’s how this book feels in my head:
For the first 70%, the author is carefully threading strings—little moments, relationships, secrets, tension. Then in the final 30%, you suddenly realize all those strings have been tied into one massive knot, and you’re left wondering how it could possibly be undone.
And that ending?
I was flipping pages like a madwoman.
I also need to shout out the non-lethal cliffhanger. I’ve been lucky enough to hit a few of those lately, and I love them. You’re not left emotionally wrecked—but you are deeply invested. There’s clearly more coming, and thankfully, the next book is already out because I immediately downloaded it to my Kindle.

Should you add The Road of Bones to your TBR?
Yes.
If you love fantasy romance and don’t mind a story that takes its time building toward something big, this one is absolutely worth the ride.
