💭 My Thoughts:

I was in a WEIRD reading mood when I picked this up.

For weeks, I’d been starting genuinely good books…

And abandoning them.

Sometimes at 60%. Nothing was sticking.

So I picked this up out of desperation.

And thankfully?

It worked.

This book got me READING again.

The vibes:

I would describe this as a crack book.

And I mean that affectionately.

Not because it’s bad. Because it’s EASY. It’s fast-paced. It’s entertaining. It doesn’t take itself too seriously. And sometimes…

That’s exactly what you need.

I couldn’t put it down.

After weeks of struggling to finish anything, that felt like a miracle. If you’re feeling the same way right now, these fantasy romance books are just plain fun and perfect for a reading slump.

The plot:

The rejected fated mate setup immediately caught my attention because I don’t read that dynamic very often.

Add wolf shifters? I’m in.

There aren’t a ton of wolf shifter fantasy romances that have really worked for me, so I was curious to see what this one would do.

And I can confirm that it scratches the itch.

If you enjoyed The Wolf King, I could definitely see this hitting the same spot.

The romance was fun, too.

The grumpy/sunshine dynamic worked.

The MMC was suitably enigmatic.

And the tension kept me turning pages.

Criticisms:

Was it predictable? Yep.

Did some of the writing read like a debut novel? Also yep.

There were some tense changes and other little things that pulled me out of the story.

The FMC also had moments where I wanted to grab her by the shoulders and say: “Girl. THINK.” 😂

But her ignorance was at least somewhat justified within the story, and the pacing was fast enough that I could overlook most of it.

And that’s really the key with this book.

Don’t pick it up expecting a perfectly polished, intricately layered fantasy romance.

Pick it up because you want FUN. This is a quick, easy escape. Like a cheap vacation. Temporary. Low effort.

You don’t have to think about your responsibilities for a while.

And when it’s over? You had a good time.

For me, this was exactly the book I needed at exactly the right time.

It pulled me out of a reading slump.

It was fast, fun and gave me wolf shifters and a rejected mate storyline. I couldn’t put it down.

That’s a win in my book.

I’m already picking up the next one.
