✨ Vibes:

🦋Heartless Hunter — dual/conflicting storylines + tension
☠️Nocticadia — mystery illness + eerie intrigue
🗡️Mr. & Mrs. Smith — but make it magical and emotionally messy

Basically: enemies-to-lovers meets soulmate chaos with a side of “should we kill each other or kiss?”

💭 My Thoughts:

I requested this ARC for two reasons:

  1. The cover (obsessed)
  2. The summary (immediate yes)

That’s it. No expectations. No prior knowledge.

And WOW—this book delivered. (Thank you Netgalley and Ballantine Books)

First of all, the premise??
Sworn enemies destined to kill your fated soulmate… with hired assassins to take out one or the other???

Say less.

The dual POV structure is where this book shines. The tension builds so well because you know exactly what’s coming… you just don’t know how it’s going to explode. And when the MCs finally collide??

Oh it’s fun.

And then it gets… scintillating.
Not in the way you think. Just trust me—it’s hot. 👀

The magic system leans soft, not super rule-heavy, but it works. You’re not here to diagram it—you’re here to feel it. And the story makes sure you do.

Because the real star here?

The plot.

Secrets. Lies. Religious politics. Moral grey areas everywhere. No clear “right side.” Just vibes and consequences.

And the romance??

DECADENTLY. SLOW. BURN.

Like I usually lose patience with slow burns, but this one? I didn’t even notice how long it took because the tension was doing all the heavy lifting. When it finally starts to catch??

Yeah. Worth it.

Also—this cast? Not a single straight person in sight. The casual, normalized inclusivity felt very fanfic-coded in the best way, and it worked seamlessly in this world.

The pacing?? Chef’s kiss.

The book is split into three distinct parts, and each one feels like a new stage of the journey. You’re constantly moving, constantly discovering, constantly questioning everything.

And that ending???

So, honestly I had my suspicions about midway-through, but not because of any clues the book gave. (I was obvlious to those).

I was just so immersed in the story I was thinking about it constantly. Like, I spent an unhealthy amount of time thinking about this book, babes.

What that says about me or the book… I’ll let you be the judge of that.

Anyway, now I have to sit here and wait until release day like the rest of society before I can really talk about it, and I am not okay.
