I love a badass FMC.
Give me a woman who can throw a punch, wield a sword, manipulate magic, survive a deadly trial, assassinate someone without blinking, or simply look a powerful man dead in the eye and say, βTry me.β
Iβm listening.
Because while I have absolutely nothing against a soft heroine who needs rescuing once in a while, sometimes you want an FMC who is the reason everyone else needs rescuing.
These are the women who walk into dangerous situations and make them worse.
For everyone else.
Not for them.
So if youβre looking for fantasy romance books with badass FMCs, morally questionable women, assassins, warriors, rebels, magical powerhouses, and heroines who have absolutely no intention of playing nice…
Welcome.
And if you prefer your men to be just as lethal if not more so, I’ve got you. Check out my best morally grey fantasy romance books list and my fantasy romance books with shadow daddies lists for even more dangerous characters.

Souls in Ruin β Jacqueline White
Okay.
This one comes with a warning.
Souls in Ruin is dark fantasy romance.
We’re talking captivity, torture, blood and gore, revenge, and magical bonds. This is not the book you pick up when you’re looking for a cozy little fantasy adventure and some cute flirting.
The FMC is navigating an absolutely brutal situation, and the story does not soften the edges for you.
I loved the lyrical writing, but this is one where you absolutely need to check the content warnings before diving in. If you can handle it, it’s worth bearing witness to the FMC’s strength.
Best for readers who want: truly dark fantasy romance, revenge, captivity, magical bonds, morally complicated characters, blood and gore, and an FMC who survives hell.

Eyes of Devious Burgundy β Lacey Lehotzky
Secret identities are one of my favorite ways to make an FMC dangerous.
Because there’s nothing quite like watching someone walk around while everyone else thinks they know exactly who she is…
when they absolutely do not.
Best for readers who want: secret identities, badass FMCs, angels and demons, military fantasy, magical bonds, forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers, and dark fantasy.
